This article concerns an exegesis of the al-Mub?hila verse, its occasion of revelation and reasoning with it, and its significance on infallibility and imamate of Imam `Ali, hence his direct succession of the Prophet Muhammad. It also concerns the meaning of al-Mub?hila together with the associated concepts explicated by Sunnite and Shiite exegetes on the virtues of Imam `Ali. It leads on to the point that the only personality deserved for guarding the path of prophet hood was Imam `Ali
