Waqf as one of the civilizational manifestations of Islam, has historically played a pivotal role in promoting economic development, social welfare, and the realization of justice. However, studies reveal that many endowment institutions fall short of achieving desired efficiency and productivity. The concept of productivity—rooted in economics and management and defined as optimal resource utilization for value generation—offers a useful framework for improving waqf institutions’ performance. This study proposes strategic solutions for enhancing the efficiency and optimal use of waqf assets in line with the founders’ original intents, focusing on socio-economic welfare. Using a qualitative, descriptive-analytical method and drawing on Islamic jurisprudence and modern organizational theory, it addresses the question: What are the core elements and components necessary for enhancing waqf productivity?Findings show that improving waqf productivity requires a combined focus on jurisprudential principles—such as preserving waqf property and respecting founders’ intentions—and the use of modern management tools. These include strategic planning, asset management, innovation, performance evaluation, and ongoing training. Formulating effective policies within the Sharia framework can preserve the spiritual essence of waqf while enabling its economic and social functions to be realized more effectively and sustainably.
